Biography

Nourished by their many different voyages, the members of Mango Gadzi cast their style of gypsy music into the creative buzz that is the contemporary music scene. Each from different backgrounds, these eight musicians, including a flamenco dancer, explore the horizons of a rich musical universe favourable to invention and creativity. The results are similar to those found in a research laboratory, where each contributes their discoveries and are challenged by those of the others.

Mango Gadzi sweeps its listeners away into a mix of musical poetry (imaginary languages with Spanish, Arabic, and Gypsy accents), talented acoustic instrumentalism (flamenco guitar/saz/violin/flute/double bass/drums/derbuka/oud…) and thrilling stage performances.

The pleasure from playing and giving their all has touched audiences of many generations over the last seven years. The music of Mango Gadzi is enjoyed at cafe concerts, festivals, and cultural centers in France and beyond :  Maroquinerie,  Zèbre in Belleville, Humanity festival, Transbordeur, Ninkasi Kao, Festival “From one world to another”, Lyon Auditorium, Rocktambule festival, “Danse” festival at the Chateau Rouge, Automnales, Musilac, Brise-Glace, “Voices of the Mediterranean” festival, Yankadi festival, Kumpania festival, “Ca s’joux” festival, Sablier, Institute francaise and the Cultural Carnival of Berlin, Manège (Geneva), Open Sky festival, Litomericky Koren festival (Czech republic), Varazskert Utczabal festival (Hungary)…

Mango Gadzi recorded its first album of the same name in 2003. The success of this opus led to the release in 2006 of Ur Mama, in co-production with Tchookar and distributed nationally by Productions Spéciales. On this new album, the group continues its mix of styles and genres while affirming its originality and place in the vast currents of contemporary music.

Mango Gadzi possess a strong desire for creation, which has led them to begin a new project with the klezmer inspired group No Mad? and the Caramantran marionette company at the Fourmilière.
